 A party of voices

some laughing, some singing, some quiet

you move about

a presense

joining us together

the hale and hearty

the quiet and shy

we watch you

we quiet ones

poised to speak at your awaited passing

tilting our heads from side to side

to show others we are involved in their conversations

if not our own

dipping our heads in acknowledgment

at some point made across the room

while we wait for you to pass by

so long we are there

waiting quietly, intensely

for the voices to thin

so we can sing and be heard by you

but when the moment finally comes

we find ourselves unprepared

a condition not unknown to us

so the moment passes

and we find ourselves waiting again

patiently, intensely

then you change

into a blue kimono

soft like the sky

soft like the grace of early morning

and you sit on the floor by us

and we have what we came for at last

a clarity of feeling felt deeply

for us a feast, a banquet of renown

known among the quiet and shy

so we lay and suckled quietly

the milk of human feeling from your warm breasts

content, happy for it is our time to dream

and be gently

Our reward for being the way we are

around someone the way you are.
