an old man
& i
each waitin' to die
can you understand?

he's 85
i'm 55
he & i
each livin'
each waitin' to die

he's sleepin' 'till he eats
i stay awake, waitin' to see what i meets

he & me
waitin' to see
the forever
that comes after ever & ever

his story & mine
are each in our mind
or in our hearts
from the ends to the starts
he & me
have our parts
that are secrets to see
a memory to find
in our life's history

he know's his past
i know mine
nothing last
life's not that kind
and so we find
in our hearts
our minds
each's own history

we sit together
thru fair and stormy weather
and we stare
out there
to the future
or to the past
waitin' to where
life takes he & me
waitn' to see
each's own history

an old man & i
waitin' to die
each livin' his truth
each knowin' his lie
each within his own little booth
in time
each feeling his rhytmn
livin' with life's given
each seekin' his own rhyme
the old man & i

each givin' it a try
to face today
each with his truth & lie
each with nothing to say
each waitin' to die
