Jaycie is my 21 month old grand-daughter. When you speak of Christmas miracles she is one! At the age of six months, she had a liver transplant. To see her today, you would never know it. For Christmas, I made her a toy chest and wrote her this poem. I know her Mom and Dad, will put away the poem until she is old enough to understand it all. Hopefully, this chest will last her a lifetime. The story of our Christmas is called "A Successful Revelation," and can be found in my short stories. Jaycie is also the reason 10% of my royalties from the sale of "Damaged Merchandise" will go to the University of Nebraska-Omaha Lied Transplant Center.
A chest for Jaycie.
Handmade, sanded, stained, and varnished!
For now, to hold all your little friends.
Dolls, cups, blocks, and books,
The possibilities will never end.
Toys, for your young mind.
Creating games and adventures,
Only you'll understand,
All of the time!
As the years go by,
Your little toys,
Will be pushed aside.
Hopefully though, your chest,
Will stay alive!
Changed from toys, to hopes and dreams.
Traditions and heirlooms, placed inside.
From Mom and Dad,
And Grandparents, too!
Memories and treasures,
Given and created, just for you!
We're sure you'll find some flaws.
But, we hope you realize,
Our love for you, is above all laws.
Yeah, we're not perfect,
But we do our best.
And when you entered this family,
We knew, we were truly blessed.
Merry Christmas 2004,
Grandma and Grandpa Harm
