i wish i could pray
i wish i could lay
words at your feet
words that would meet

a poet i am
by GOD damn
i am
a writter
a late at nighter
who says what he says
with words
hidden so well
who can tell
what i say or what i mean
late at night or early morning
what do i sing
about love
payin' the cost
or love so new
i never knew
i ramble on
and go on & on
from old to young
the same old same song i sung
the old & the knew
what do i do
what would you
do you have a clue
why the sky's gray
or the sky is blue
or why i still love you

i wish i could say
woulddn't you

ella, i still love you
lovin' you is what i do
words r true
the sky is blue
and, ella, i love you
late at night
or early in the morning
no more sight
still got the yourning

i wish i could say
i love you
but you know i do
so let the words lay
where they lie
love u till i die
nice try
loved passed us bye
nuthin' else to say
now, i just pray
let the words lay
where they play

tomorrow is just yesterday
that's past it's way

i love you, anyway
