what color were walls
before we alls
had our falls
into beige?

was everything
black or white
day or night?
that don't seem the right
thing.

before off-white
was right
before beige
became the rage,
was there a color?

maybe RED!
or BLUE!
or GREEN!

know what I mean?

what do I mean?

was there ever,
i mean before ever & ever & never...
before each door
became beige
and beige was quite the rage...
was there a color?

what about the floor?

did you always walk...
did you always talk...
in beige
before beige became the sage?

did you ever walk
or talk in RED
or GREEN
or BLUE
did that ever do a color for you
did that color ever seem
to give LIFE a meaning
to where you were?
or where you are?

off-white
is not quite
right
beige
may be the rage
but it don't take no sage
to read a page
that tells you no-thing
about the color it bring

black on white
a newspaper
tells you about
what's comin' later
a newsletter
makes you jump & shout
makes you feel worse or better
kinda' like a letter
from an old love or an old friend
you can't wait to read the end

mixed met-em-befores
old dogs & old whores
one things fore shores
they ain't bores
they ain't the rage.
they ain't beige!

past-tells
make me want to yells
no pinks.
no yellows.
no shades of baby blue.
tell me true .
is that you?
that will not do.
for me or for you.
shades that fade...
colors that sink...
those tricky fellows
beige and no-teller's

NO BEIGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

give me color!

in art
in poetry
i "SHOUT IT!!!!"
be About IT!
RED
GREEN
BLUE
PURPLE
PASSION !!!!!!!!!!
get out of fashion
no beige
no cage
to word me in...
let the word's begin
from the beginning to the end

No off-white
no lack of light
no day nor night
allwrite

just ramble away
and stay
in yesterday
or today
just pick and choose
a color you choose
what do you have to lose?

as long as it ain't beige.
