"My rhyme and me through time to see eternity: / Join hands with me and let us be together here and there"

Transcendental Sonnet #1206:

Stand By the Stove Wear Two Coats and Create

(the poet in winter)

My roof was laid in 1968

But since then some of it has blown away

Yet though it rains to flood there are no leaks

The layers of a hundred years of fate

Keep my old haunted house bone-dry today

Though my huge antique furnace has been out

Inert and cold for months still my life speaks

Of providence I wear my gloves nor pout

For what is not but thankful for what is

Stand by the stove wear two coats and create

Here in God's hands I wait as underneath are his

Unfailing arms of love to care for me to bear

My rhyme and me through time to see eternity:

Join hands with me and let us be together here and there
