“A Place I Miss”

I used to sit out under the old oak tree,
An assortment of acorns litter the ground,
Totally oblivious to misery.

Large black carpenter ants would scurry about-
A shower of rain would cause a many pound.
They’d fall off leaves into the stream -- Ate by trout.

A single crayfish looks up at me through glass-
One of his front claws fallen off with age.
Everything is fine until up comes a Bass.

Is it self-genocide I do witness?
Life feeds on life to fill up it’s own gauge...
But perhaps its best is careless-
I’m watching it’s mistakes -- Forgetting my own.
