Being a stormphobic is hell. It's not storming outside, but the Spring Severe Weather season will be here before I know it. And the fear will begin...

I find myself in a labyrinth
Of my own creation.
Surrounded by greasy walls of fear
And my own frustration.

Sweat slickens my hands, I lose my grip
And fall an endless fall.
There's no way out, there's no escape;
Around me, demons crawl.

They laugh at my struggles to get out.
Believe me, I have tried.
While they point out every failed attempt,
In shame, my face I hide.

Thunder rips open the clouds above
And lightning writhes in pain;
The storm is the reason I am here
Cowering once again.

In the labyrinth of fear I dwell,
I've lost my sanity.
Asking every time a storm comes near
'Twill it be the death of me?

I am facinated by storms...the way a cornered rat may be facinated by a hungry snake. Fantastic work, Karla.

I can feel your terror - even though I love storms myself.
Well written Karla.

Powerful write of what you have to go through as storms approach, may the Lord keep you safe, and release those fears
God Bless

Having fear of storms can be very difficult and quite the challenge to get past. Great write.

2004, the jet stream changed and the major part of tornado alley was through Nebraska. For five straight weekends, communities around us were under attack... One whole town disappeared. Where we lived had two in one night, one north, one south. The one to the south, I watched from our front door. Makes you realize how strong Nature is, and how weak we are. Great poem.

You capture the very essence of what us stormphobics feel whenever a storm is going on...but as long as you trust in the Lord, you know He will get you through your fears! AWESOME write; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin (and fellow storm phobic!), karen lynn. :D

Wonderful and I had a dog that this fit. We had a tornado and it picked him in the doghouse up and sat them down across the street. He filed a complaint with the SPCA and said he was not going back to that dog house.

Excellent write Karla, I can understand your fear of storms but I think that is born from a respect for the awesome power of nature as she so recently demonstrated not only in Asia and California but here in the UK too. Take heart from the fact that it inspires you to write such lovely poetry.

take care my friend
the next time you feel anxious about the weather, just remember that there will be people thinking of you, I hope that is of some comfort to you.

Excellent poem...have to say that storms do just the opposite to me...I relax and sleep like a baby when it's spiders send me to my own "Labyrinth of Fear" double time!!!

Wonderful poen on the topic Karla. Storms excite me, I look forward to them. Having said that, I know they can be frightening. I was in one in Canada all alone one time and it was the only time I knew the real terror a storm could arouse. I think my strange environment was mostly the cause, but it did give me an idea of the fear that must grip you. I pray you will get rid of that monster, and I think the key word is prayer;-)!

nice image - labyrinth of fear... we all have our own, don't we? i have always thrived on the excitement of a storm (have learned to temper my tornado-chasing thrill since becoming a mom, though), but nothing freaks me out as much as a string of August days with a blazing sun i'm sure has come to claim me. i know, kinda weird... nice poem.
