"I have never been insulted by a cat / Just stop for a moment and think about that"

Transcendental Sonnet #1247:

Out on Long Island Where the Feral Cats Roam

for my sister Dara the Long Island cat-catcher

The better I know people the better I like cats

I have never been insulted by a cat

Just stop for a moment and think about that

A cat has never savaged my sonnets like those rats

On poetry sites where I put in lots of work

Only to have my life's work dismissed by some jerk

Who says it is pretty but it is self-pity

It seems my depression attracts some aggression

My sister who rescues cats is having a baby

Somehow that makes things better now and maybe

My cat Freddie Noodles and I can go see her

Out on Long Island where the feral cats roam

I love my sister but I would not want to be her

I will go see the kid and the cats and come home

The better I know people the better I like cats

I couldn't agree more, and cats, both feral and domesticated, are much too sophisticated to insult poets.

Well now I can get into this as I too have those same types of emails. Sheessh but I have this old cat named Hurricane that shows up for a handout. Kind of like that old cat and you are right and my dogs don't dis me either.
