DADDY, DO YOU KNOW?

Daddy, do you know this day?
Can your travels bring you this far?
Do you know that your namesake
has hoisted his sails, and is ready to embark?

Daddy, do you know I’m here
and I look a lot like you?
Do you know that my voyage is nearing an end,
And soon I will know your truths.

Daddy, do you know the news
that there is a little child
who will learn about the man who’s name
he carries through life’s miles?

Daddy, you visit me in your dreams
and you comfort me with your smiles.
Will you enter the sleep of your great-grandson
So he will dream of waves to ride?

It is amazing how, at the precious moments in a family's life: birth, marriage, death, the presence of other generations is very close and adds cohesion and belonging to the family tree. This is beautifully, sensitively and poignantly penned and described, Janet. TY Kate xx

Wonderfully written Janet, and packed tight with the surreal love of afar, yet near...as in watching over you. Splendidly done and congratulations on the birth of your grandson.

Janet I have no doubt that your Dad is watching over the newest member of the family there and is mighty proud he bears his name. I also am sure he is VERY proud of his daughter Janet as she crafts these beautiful words inspired by her new grandchild.

The ability to create a poem that leaves the reader wondering and wanting to know the story behind the words is a wonderful gift. This poem says so much but leaves so much to the readers imagination and desire to know who and where is Daddy?

I love this one Janet,

This is so well written and I trust the child and the father will know each other. Somehow they do.
