Whisperings from the Tree Tops…

As I walk the dog in the woods,

I hear faint voices from on high,

I cannot quite make them out,

Wish I were a bird so I could fly…

Are they the treetops whispering?

To each other, their neighbors standing close,

Whispering to the squirrels and birds as well,

Things that the woodland creatures cannot tell…

Humans need to believe in fantasy,

They need to know there is a real Mother Nature,

For if they do not, they will never hear the whispers,

Of the trees and the creatures that live in them…

Each branch does relay a thought,

The smaller trees do hear as they are taught,

They do have to be cautious; they cannot by man, be caught,

Nothing of what they do say can be, by humans, bought…

When one old tree does die,

Its knowledge is transmitted to the next,

On the older trees, the younger ones to learn, do rely,

The only thing man can do when he does hear the whispers,

Is to stand there and try to understand,

Looking all the while, quite perplexed…

I'm with the Bobsey Twins on this one, Eddie M... a favorite, indeed! Where ink may serve other's who write, I do believe Mother Nature gently guides your words when you write like this.

I have to agree with Little Andy on this one, my friend; I think this is a fantastic nature write, and one of your best poems to date. Nature truly does inspire you. Write On!

Certainly an interesting thought. I always wondered, as a child, if the trees were talking to one another? Seems appropriate!

oink oink!
