"But what we want is to be together / We ache for the love we cannot find // Just a matter of when or whether / The blind will lead each other to be kind"

Transcendental Sonnet #1268:

We Lie Awake and Wonder

This day so short this night so long

We bob and weave and blunder

Delay abort the fright so strong

We lie awake and wonder

Gainsay contort till right is wrong

And are we going under

Or getting over a nightmare?

As we hope and grope and dope and cope

And seek out the meaning everywhere

We eke out the gleaning here and there

But what we want is to be together

We ache for the love we cannot find

Just a matter of when or whether

The blind will lead each other to be kind

Dear Stevie,
I am so grateful that your sadness has not stopped you from writing. What magic you weave with your golden quill! You are an inspiration!

You, Steven, are a master word-weaver, painter of mind-pictures, feeder of heads! I read you twice, not only because I enjoy your work, but because I find the first read I get caught up in the rhythms and rhymes (a lovely experience, indeed) and must try to pace my self on Read II.

Life truths galore, 'been there' a natural reponse to this... but I think it's that infectious beat and marvelous rhyme that makes you linger for me. Good stuff! katy xox.
