Step Up!
Gazing upon my problems
Some new, some old as the hills,
All the experience of a lifetime
Will I learn, or was it all for nil?
I can think of an easier problem
And take a small step upward to grasp it.
Learn a new lesson, build a new thought,
Climb one more rung to make sense of it.
,
One small step on one problem
Ripples through the rot and debris
Of abandoned questions and senseless experience
Reaching to find a clearer me.
But what of the toughest problems,
The ones that trouble and grate?
The ones that make you want to run and hide.
The ones that endlessly frustrate?
Those are the real problems
Where a step up is crucial each day.
Those are the ones that make you a slave
And take life’s meaning away.
So if as you gaze at your problems
One step up on one problem seems good,
Study the whole panorama,
Are you doing all that you could?
Are you struggling to do right on all problems?
Are you making all the steps up you should?
Are you using every second on this planet
To become wiser and better and good?
If the answer is “No” then get busy,
There isn’t a moment to lose.
How can we help our planet survive
If we abuse our chance to improve?
A step up today on all problems
Especially the ones we deny
Is the hope for a better tomorrow
And an end to a life of a lie.
