The high achievers are not necessarily doing the thinking that will save our world.

Take Time to Think and Wonder

The teacher stood before the class
And said, "Not another day will pass
When we won't take time from the beaten path
To think and wonder."

So they set themselves a time of day
To allow the mind with thoughts to play
Looking at life in a whole new way
As they thought and wondered.

And so it came as a big surprise
When the "A" students didn't to this challenge rise,
But would rather accept the usual lines
Than think and wonder.

For when it came time for questions deep
And the struggle for meaning, they were like sheep
Who dared not take the fateful leap
To think and wonder.

But the "B's" and "C's" and even the "D's"
Not so very anxious to please
Saw this as an opportunity to be seized
To think and wonder.

And so from them the questions flowed
As one by one they clearly showed
The seeds in them had been sowed
To think and wonder.

In their souls' intensity to search and strive
They did not at the usual conclusions arrive
But fought to keep their minds alive
As they thought and wondered.

Meanwhile the "smart" ones brushed aside
Concerns they thought dumb, so they could hide
From the truths they could not abide
If they thought and wondered.

So let this be a lesson to all.
Can the high achievers prevent Earth's fall?
When many of them lack the guts and gall
To think and wonder?

But those who struggle quietly each day
Grappling with questions from which others shy away
It is they who may one day show us the way
Because they thought and wondered.
