Well, this hasn't had an airing for at least three months, and it HAS been revised ever so slightly...!!

I am Incense:
My life is fragrance
and a prayer.

Put me to the flame
and my essence is released:
Loosely curling strands,
the sweetly-perfumed haze
that rises sensuous from
a newly snuffed-out wick.

I am the scent of molten wax:
Touch me now and I shall become
as that liquid second skin
that wraps you round.

Burn me, then,
and I am unleashed;
Crush me, and I am spent.

But my presence remains:
An unknown mystery
that kindles a remembrance
even after I am gone.

totally outstanding imagery and metaphor!

This is one of your best, just enough said, a good balance of words and images with good clarity so that the images don't overwhelm, but help visualize. The first verse is perfect.

Your thoughts have truly been unleashed in this poem - and they're probably uncrushable, too.

WTG Kate, you penned after-thoughts of love very well

Kate you are amazing. I can understand this so well. Traces of love are like those scented candles, some only give off a lot of scent when you do blow them out. This is a great write and it really makes the reader think about love and the after affects of love.

No one could get fed up with your conversation.

You also are so kind to all in your reviews.

I like the way you compare yourself with intangibles: fragrance, prayer, smoky haze... essences, which as you say at the end, linger on...
