Twice In A Lifetime

Back when the future was still ours

When the world could be just you and me

Back when only the night was dark

And we were meant to be

Twice in a lifetime

When I could close my eyes

And see your smiling face

When the thought of you made me happy

And I knew no one would take your place

Twice in a lifetime

Back when I never dreamed I could lose so much

When I never knew you could be taken away

When I knew each time you walked through the door

That always you would stay

Twice in a lifetime

Back when I never knew that memories could sustain you

And a photograph could make you cry

That sorrow could invade one’s heart

And away hope would fly

Twice in a lifetime

Back when I still cared about ordinary things

And day to day life still held day to day magic

Before waking up each day in a twisted fairy tale

Where the ending was always tragic

Twice in a lifetime

And now I’ve learned the hard way

You never really know what you have

Till it waves and walks out the door

And never finds its way back

Twice in a lifetime

What I wouldn’t promise

What I wouldn’t give

To have you back now

To have fate let you live

Twice in a lifetime

I would do it all so differently

If I

I‘d known things wouldn’t always be fine

If I’d known what I should have known all along

That all we get is

Once in a lifetime

This is a fine poem of despair and of awareness of what we have but do not respect nor appreciate. This poem is written for all the lonely ones, who, through whatever reason, have lost their other self. Very, very good.

Yes this is a fine tribute to the heroes of 911. What a day that was. It seemed to never end.
