A New ‘Morn

I awake to the dawn as the sun breaks,

purple, gold and blue over the horizon

I smell the morning smells of humanity,

coffee, bacon and burnt toast

I shed off the covers like a snake sheds his skin,

I shiver as my feet hit cold floor

I smile knowing that today is brand new,

I can live what came before

I don my robe, fuzzy, somewhat ragged but warm, safe,

 like this old house

I attend my morning toiletry,

the icy water awakens the body and the mind

I think it is the first day of the rest of my life,

as that corny line made famous

I will rise like the phoenix, from last night’s ashes

to the world that I will find.

a wonderful sense of renewal intertwined with very vivid imagery that can almost be touched ...

This is a great write, Felix. I could feel the icy particles in the water as you splashed it upon your face and also the feeling of my favorite robe that cradles me with the same comfort I remember in my mother's arms when I was a young child. Mornings are my favorite time of day. I always feel the promise of the new day and also the quiet tranquility of a world that, for many, is still sleeping.
Take care,
