I picked up my glass of white wine
Touched the rim to my lips
The warmth of it caressed my throat
But did not touch the chill in my soul
I’d seen her again on the street today
She was there, watching me
I saw her yesterday and the day before
Always close by, watching me
Another sip of wine to warm me
Exquisite to the taste
Appealing to the pallet
The trembling still hasn’t stopped
Why was she there watching me.
I want to be left alone.
I’m not ready to leave yet
I will stay and drink my wine
I avoided her two days ago
When her eyes locked with mine
She never spoke a word to me
I turned and walked away
I’ll sip my wine with pleasure
I’ll dine here all alone
With warm walls to surround me
The cold is overwhelming
The old soul has been sent it seems
To lead the path back there,
My work here on earth is done
She’s calling me back home
But I’m not ready to depart
From life and all its’ charm
I am happy here drinking wine
Enjoying life on this earth.
I’m colder now deep inside
I know my time has come
She’s standing there reaching out
I know I cannot run.
