A Song from Home
I strummed and sang my heart out
Played every song I knew
The young lady clapped her hands along
She asked: Is there one I know you’ll do
I smiled and said what do you know
She said sing me songs of home
I drank a few too many beers
And kinda feeling all alone
You see at sixteen I ran away
I thought I knew it all
At seventeen I discovered drugs
Needle tracks in the hall
At eighteen I turned a trick
Too late I knew that I was hooked
At nineteen I was arrested
Prostitution charges booked
At twenty I found hope in Jesus
Or maybe he found hope in me
I’ve been clean for six months now
The Lord worked his love you see
So now I’m working saving money
I’ll soon have enough to go
To the arms of Mom and Daddy
Who still want me back I know
I picked up my old six string
I said this one’s for you
It’s one I think you’ll like
I’ll play “Amazing Grace” for you.
