Why do people run and hide?
When honesty slips and slides
When truth confines and restricts
When passion ceases to exist
When humility becomes the norm
When strangers stand on corners in a storm

Why do leaders deceive and lie?
To loyal staff who are told to buy
Company stock at new highs
Then sink to new lows unheard of when
CEOs continued to defend
Cooked books with their own spin

Why does poverty divide?
Nations intent on genocide
A people who prefer ignorance
And choose to live in their own bliss
You and me who refuse to listen
To viewpoints that enlighten and christen

Why does religion fail to unite?
Nations who continue to fight
People who profess to hate
Other opinions that obfuscate
Families who are torn apart
Parents and children doomed from the start
