This morning I woke up/ hungry for a bowl of Alice Coltrane/ sweetened with the vocals of / Nancy Wilson/I poured out some Monk and/ sipped a steamy hot cup of/ 'trane /I took a bite of Miles and/ my mouth exploded with the bluesy notes/ of Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday/ I savored the rich flavors of Carmen McRae/ notes and rifts/ mellow-dees and harm-on-ees/ fed me and replenished my starved/ body and soul/ I walked away from the table/ full and content/ breaking my fast from the empty/ gnawing that was inside my belly/ I was filled with the nourishment/ provided by the tickling of light and dark/ the playfulness of Sassy/ the soulfulness of Nina/ my heart skipped in double time/ to the tune of "a tisket-a tasket" I skipped away/ swinging my brown and yellow basket/ full and free!
