And you stopped listening
Distracted by the oceans
that you say are my eyes.

And I talked on, trying to relieve my
conscious stress of analyzing your hand
at my hip.

I swear you said “I love you”
instead of goodbye.
But when I asked for repeating
You subtly blushed and,
told me again,
to have a nice day.

the green glow of the exit sign
Is that of captured emeralds.

I love the way you hug me in the mornings.
But I will not, can not, tell you that I love you.
At least, not until you leave me.

And we are a collage
of tension, hands, sunsets,
abrazos, and poems.

Words,
both yours and mine,
entrapped like the emeralds in an exit sign.
