I have been close enough to the edge
To see the abyss,
And the hearts of those dwelling within,
Who are held,
Suspended,
Without hope, and yet knowing,
The course that brought them here.

Without exception,
They can tell what is right,
And why they failed,
And what they would do,
Differently,
Were they to be given another chance.

In life, pulsating and breathing,
And tasting tomorrows fruits,
Today,
Everyone will join the conversation,
To tell you of fatal acts,
That lead to the abyss.

Of course,
Murder is a crime most foul.
And adulterers have lost their sight,
If not their right,
To comforts beyond old age.
Deceit and theft
Will claim others,
As will the drugs,
And pride will steal your soul.

But ask those cast out,
What lead them so far afield,
And they will say,
Impatience
Leads to every crime.
For today, we cannot wait
For rewards,
And so we reach
Beyond,
That which is rightfully ours.

Credit gives me now,
What should take me years to earn,
And drugs make me warm,
Warm as the soul of a righteous man.
Every year I travel,
To places that my parents only dreamed of.
And so I claim my riches,
Without remorse,
Or regret,
And wonder after a life unfulfilled,
How is it
That I am unhappy?

To want impatiently
Leads to theft and graft,
And lies to self and others.
It blinds to truth,
But willingly grants facade.
Wake up!
You know the truth!

Now we give the earth
A vision,
Of that which we think we have.
Come and partake
Of tomorrow's fruits today.
Freedom is a gift from God,
Which every man should know,
But we forget to tell them,
To partake of the gifts patiently,
And only after they have been earned.

Peace of mind is nothing,
But a conscience which is clear.
And poverty leads to purity,
And time to watch your children grow.
If honest,
Others will come to hear your truth
And soon, you will call them friends.
Take not, that which is not your own,
And you will receive gifts beyond your means.
Be not haughty and your home will be filled
With humble men.
And you will find joy
In your soul,
As all rewards
Are given
In their proper time.
