Over Easy

mugs of white lined up
still wet from the dishwasher
tough solid mugs
built to last, carrying
the black liquid easily too,
the factory workers lining up outside
eager for java and clunkers,
turning them into dunkers,
a wisp of black steam
caught in mid-air
by tongues turned mute
the distant grumbles
stifled till noon
when the whistles will blow
their luncheon magic.
