Twenty-four Roses

Sometimes "love" inspires poetry, some times poetry inspires "love"

He passed her the bouquet of roses
They numbered twenty four
She said: "It's not our anniversary
It's not my birthday that's for sure
Did you do something really bad
Or do you have to tell me bad news
Please I'm just a little bit frightened
So perhaps give me some little clues

Did my mother pass away, did you tell a lie
Did you lose money at the track
Did you put a payment down on a Harley
You better go get your money back"

She finally ran out of questions
as he just stood there with a grin

He said: "The roses say I love you
there are are twenty four in all
One for each year we've been together
I'm sure the number you recall
Then three more for each daughter
You blessed me with each one
Two more for our grandchildren
Who added so much fun
So added all together
Roses are such a small price to pay
For the precious love you gave me
From the start until today..."

Her tears said thank you...

Very sweet of you. I too would question why. But I would have been happy with a single rose. Karen

Clarification: I was the one who bought the roses but I came up with the reason and the poem after I bought them...sorry.
