how 'bout some prose?

for L.

what is the difference
of fourteen from twenty-eight
besides half a lifetime
and three thousand miles?
new york city,
i've seen your glorious
towers, and held your
strongest denizens
in my arms, kissed away
tears long after the feelings
had left my body
and the structures had
fallen to the ground...
this is not a love poem
for you, more of a
recollection of what
you've taught me
when i didn't know myself
or you, but you did see
some flickering glimmer
of what would be,
what could have been.
dear blue,
i wish i'd never lost
that lock of hair
kept in an overall pocket
though i still keep your letters
the one you sent for my wedding
if i'd only known sooner
if only you were closer.
