Behind my eyes they hide,

Seen by me when closed are my lids,

Seen by you never, or so it seems,

They drag me down to the dregs of life,

They bring me back to a time I try to forget…

They want me to become my past,

Their desire is mine, one I have tried to deny,

Common sense I may have, but strength I do lack,

Fortunately their prey I have little time around…

They see their prey, at that time I do pray,

To the gods in the heavens they must hear me say,

My demons do attack me in my dreams,

As long as they stay there, the world will not at me scream…

Fearful I am most of the time,

Too write and read seems to get me through quite fine,

My hands can touch; my nether regions do grow,

If it were not for a modicum of intelligence,

I would today be sleeping with the demons of hell…

Learned though I did,

I still find life quite hard behind my lids,

They are there at the ready,

Fight them I must, for freedom is too precious,

Before they make me do something I regret,

I must keep a wary thought, I must the demons forbid…

Excellent write Ed, sometimes our demons can be hard to defeat but beaten they can be.

Yes this is the balance in a person in that sometimes the demon wins and sometimes the angel wins. I fight alcohol as well.
