A poem to a Nez Perce Princess

She is a mercurial mysterious mesmerizing maiden
Her eyes revealed hidden emotions and a longing
I could tell that her free spirit was rapidly fadiní
Her fear was her lack of a sense of really belonging

She possessed an uncommon beauty and brightness
Her natural native ability with horses a rare talent
Her problem with most folks was her forthrightness
Of rudeness and crudeness she was never tolerant

A picker, a player, and an angel sent to Earth
From Chief Josephís lineage she is a living dream
Problem is she isnít sure of her own regal worth
Her skin is smooth, clean as a high mountain stream

The blood of her ancestors running deep in her veins
Hair streaming in the wind like a mustangís tail
As she rides her steed across the arid desert plains
Many men have tried to possess her to no avail

For you canít possess the wind, it is wild and free
But I donít wish to tame or possess the wild wind
I only wish to adore her majesty on bended knee

My lovely native princess, my very special friend
