A message for someone I once loved.

When we made a promise to love and be true

In our hearts we believed it was so

But what were you thinking when that door slammed

Where did that commitment go?

ĎIíll love you forever and be by your side

Iíll walk with you in the suní

But what if it rains, will you be there?

Or will the coward in you need to run?

Itís not meant to be easy, I think we both know

But itís worth the challenge to try

I thought that your shoulder would cushion my tears

Whenever I needed to cry

I could have gone, but I chose then to stay

In the hope of good times ahead

I soothed your sorrow, I fed your soul

I tended you when you bled

But what of my blood that just drained away

When the pain of my life took me down

You laughed in my face and turned your back

You left me alone to drown

I guess what I felt was just too much

For someone like you to take

Perhaps I misjudged you, I thought you were strong

I made such a tragic mistake

Along came a person, a devious mind

She knew which strings she could play

Not all those who smile are honest and kind

But you didnít see her that way

You listened to her when you had me right there

I trusted you both from the start

A burning betrayal of friendship and love

Left ashes of hurt in my heart

You planned my demise after so many years

Her mischievous hands she did wring

This was her chance to get what she wanted

To take away everything

She whispered, you listened, but never to me

She convinced you of what to do

To solve all your problems, find someone to blame

And that someone would never be you

She stroked your ego and held your hand

Even though mine was there

But sheíd never love you the same way I did

Thatís something that youíll have to bear

I didnít deserve what you said to me

Your weaknesses let you down

But I see you today as a sorry, lost man

With the face of a crying clown

Itís sad that you couldnít just leave when you did

Without scratching away at my heart

You left a sore that might never heal

Itís okay, Iíll face my new start

You couldnít deal with the person I was

I just wouldnít play your game

I wasnít there just to soak up your fears

While you searched for someone to blame

My heart is clear and I have no regrets

I saw through you both, donít you see?

I have moved on and found a new love

Who loves me because I am me

What a terrible and horrible thing he did to you. All you had to go through, but love came round a second time and surprised you and it surely has to be better than the first was. You deserve love and finding it much better you can go on with your life and treat him special be be treated special by him too. Lots of luck, and be happy always. Trust in God always too. Prayers for you. Lois Christensen

This is out of the world, and really hit home from years that has long gone. You are a wonderful person to look at things this way and he has indeed lost a treasyur when he lost you. Have a happy and wonderful life.

I kept highlighting lines to post and comment, "Oooh, I relate to this stanza." or "Oh, that one really got me." But it's the whole dog-gone poem. It's so universal for the wounded heart. Splendid! ~~Nordette

Annette, I'm just glad to know he is your past, and you've began a new life, with the present.
Great writing, with a hint of devastation.
