When I said "I want you"
it was not in the heat of a passionate moment.
I want you because
you write poetry to me
and you fed and soothed me when I lost my friend
you bring me flowers
and you stayed by my side and held my hand in my most fearful moments
you bring me wine
and you offer me advice but never tell me what to do
you bring me books
and when we make love you hold me endlessly
you tell me I'm sweet
and when we last laid together you said something -
God, I can't remember what it was -
but I remember how I felt when you said it
you open doors for me
and you accept me for all that I am and you like me in spite of it
you bring me music
and when you laid upon me, your body was twisted in a way
that captured me
you call me baby
and you are always there for me, even in my darkest hours
you pour my coffee
I want you because I need you
and I need you because I want you
How wonderful to be caught up in this circle of want and need
and feel comfort because of it.
