To heroism large and small

The crowd watched the blind folded man led forth
Led to the circles fresh built stage
He stood tall and true with heart of oak
His hidden comrades held their rage

He ordered them his final words
Let the dogs of war not spare my heart
For I have fought and I will die
My land will know I did my part

When the our flag flies ‘oer the citadel
When our children’s laughter has no fear
When the Stars and Stripes are not trampled in the dust
Then my memory will be there

When he knelt to lay his head on the block
When the keen edged axe sang its death song
Islam heard “Oh say can you see…”
And for his country he stood forever strong.

So sad. To me all our military personal are hero's. Not just the ones that have fought in wars or are there now. Without them we would not still have our freedom. Just wish they could all see the poem. Karen

Many heros have fallen in defense of freedom...they must be remembered and honored as you have done here...A heroic poem indeed.

This is so very well written and yet so very sad. The price for freedom is a very high one and I imagine it will always be. The red stripes in our flag are there to symbolize those who have given their all that freedom might endure. We live in a very difficult time and for some strange reason, there are groups of people who don't want others to have freedom. I am forever grateful to those who serve and to those who have served, for it is they who have allowed me to have the life that I have been blessed with.
Take care,
Sherry

Thank You Felix.
Without the strength and bravery of our fighting men and women, America wouldn't have been able to withstand the forces against them through the ages.
Caring and beautiful write.

Such a sad thing that someone has to die because someone else wants to rule the world, and hide terrorists inside their borders. To all the women and men who have fought a died to be free, I salute you. You have shown your courage true, and your devotion for freedom undaunting. Until there is peace on earth, I pray that our fighting women and men, come back. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love, peace, & (((HUGS))), Barbie
