(A memorial tribute to my adopted mother/aunt Lucy M. Carr)

©1986 M. Bennett Hooper

I give my mother roses everyday by thanking God for her presence in my life.
I first knew love when she cradled me in her arms and I loved her before I became aware of the existence and love of God.

When I first knew love its’ name was auntie.
She taught me pain, joy, and above all how to live with myself.
Ever wonderful and beautiful woman when I first knew love It was you even before I became aware of the existence and love of God.

Cradled gently in the arms of our creator may God continue to touch you in eternal love and eternal life.
When I first knew love, it was you who taught me pain, joy and above all how to live with myself.

Looking down upon your face I see your glow as you join our ancestors and my soul sings with you as you are welcomed into a higher multi-verse filled with those who left us so long ago and I hear their songs of life as they now reside within me.

When I first knew love it was you who held the orphaned babe six days after your sister left for the other world .
Waving to me she whispered you will be loved.

You know this is a wonderful tribute to a wonderful person. I knew her from another person that I met in my walk with cancer. She was indeed a remarkable woman. There is a center here in Virginia that bears her name for the elderly. But you rose to the occasion of penning a tribute to a true mother.

Oh my, this is so beautifully written ,I hesitate to say it's sad for your positive attitude and love for Creator is very evident. Yet he says blessed are they who mourn! A magnificent tribute to your aunt/ mother!
