Projection, sifting through small gems
In time’s force, to race in marble sculpture,
Forgiven, collected, like a still flame, white,
Finished with the graven and smooth stroke.
Shafts of light lay long in the late afternoon,
Capable of illumination, resting in the spaces
Between spaces, filled with modeled stone,
Shaved, organic form, faith in reflection
Of song, still symphony expanding into negative space,
Filling the emptiness with an eternity of idol,
With the endless curve of a hard representation
Of possible spheres, cut and turned, luminous,
With pieta, with the unfamiliar absolute
Entering the realm of shadows, pierced with
A limited eye, wrought perfection tied to
The balance of celestial origin and a human universe,
Connecting belief and agony with infinite compassion,
The draped cloth forever unmoving, in still life,
Like a fall of water captured out of time.
