On the occasion of my Uncles death

For Lee

Let us remember,
his laugh, his jokes,
and song.

Let us remember,
now that the horn is silent,
and the bow, unstrung.

let us remember,
although the vessel was rough,
inside it held love.

Let us remember,
although he sometimes held the trigger,
he also held the dove.

Let us remember,
the things he loved, the woods,
the lakes, and us.

Let us remember,
the words he spoke of encouragement
and trust.

Let us remember,
as through this world of pain
we roam.

Let us remember,
for now the hunter,
the hunter, has gone home.
