If music ‘be the food of love, I’d play

The organ to enchant the world with sound…

If only my fingers didn’t feel like clay

And if the right melody could be found…

But all my efforts sound just like grinding,

Empty noises that only monkeys make,

Would-be pleasure turns to agonising,

As my labours turn into “big mistake”.

I was “grinding” the organ when above,

Into a frame, a monkey came along,

Shook his head and said: “Quickly off you shove,

You are the monkey… and I am the song”…

The illustration is a sneak photo of “yours truly” grinding the organ…

which was the inspiration for writing the verse…

The monkey in the frame was superimposed on the original colour etching…

The monkey grinding the organ… is the original monkey… yours truly…

Music flows through "The Organ Grinder and the Monkey", and the words poetize the pictures.

"The Organ Grinder and the Monkey" is a poem to enrich the bank of Poetry.

Loved this write. I could hear the music, despite the hands of clay, as music is born within.

Don't be so depreciating--you know you love it! :) Play away, Organ Grinder! And please, keep writing more of these entertaining little vignettes of your life. :)

BRAVO, my friend! At least you can play! NOT ME!
