"Thoughts I needed to write down for me"

~One Year Ago ~

The day began with a kiss

and the promise of a soft spring day

Then a life altering knock on my door

today

death did not take a holiday

in the blink of an eye my life stopped

imploding into a million tiny pieces

leaving a gaping hole of darkness within

From the bottom of despairs pit

climbing upwards I struggled

every inch of everyday

putting one foot in front of the other

in a state of trancelike animation

picking up pieces that will make me whole

Searching for a meaning, a purpose

to want to get up each day

to find within myself

the will to start over once again

Breathing in and breathing out

as echoes bounce off my walls

converting my footfalls

into whispered accusations

as I wrestle with acceptance

of what I cannot change

Just like that old song

I finally made it through the rain

Do I want to live in a void, or begin again

lay myself bare to the turbulence

the uncertainty of emotions

accepting what has past before

so I can be open to what will be ?

There is something about the one year mark that makes loss more palatable. I'm not sure why that is. But somehow it seems less 'recent' when we talk about years, allowing us to get on with the business of healing. Bless you Carol as you heal...keep writing about your pain...I found writing to be a tremendous help as I healed from my loss. Talking DOES help, and I found talking more productive when it was on paper. Perhaps you should begin a blog on AD? I began mine recently, and find myself looking forward to posting something to it nearly every day. Hugs, Michelle

Carole this is so powerful and moving! I don't know the situation, but I know that any loss, especially loved ones, effects our lives in ways that are personal to each of us. Yet, we can all relate in the gut wrenching feeling, and heartbreaking road ahead, to contend with.I'm so glad you made it through as you say! My thoughts and prayers go out to you, as you continue to adjust...

Love,

Eileen
