This is an oldie, that's having another airing so to speak...a satirical swipe at Globalisation.

Global Inc.

‘Good evening, Madam, Sir…and welcome to Global Inc.
Let me take your things, your hats and coats,
fig-leaf designer rings.
Now! If you’d like to follow me,
I’ll show you around these pleasant surroundings
the roots of our grounding

here we have the ‘Tree of Life,’
economically designed – to end all strife.
See its trunk! It shimmers with gold
representing everything that has ever been sold.
If you’d like to name your brand
I’ll show you what we have on offer in the land…?

 See before you our domain…

The World!

(Computer generated of course)

A wonderful place to reign.

In the East, the Tiger with the Dragons eyes

in the West, the rich, the poor,

the perpetrators of lies.

Look at the Tiger, how his smile has grown
the seed is sown, our grip is total…

We cater for all your needs here at Global Inc.

All the rules, the schools, political fools,

left, right, liberal and lazzaie-faire.

Its under control – it’s all done with precision and care.

If it’s iconoclastic,

laden with make-up, covered in plastic

cheap, nasty, and drastic.

All your fights, wars, and quarrels,

ethics, values, and morals.

The past, present and future,

ideological humour

Cancer and the tumour…

It’s all supplied by Global Inc.

Our weapon is unlimited choice,

Delivered to you, via a Tele-visual voice.

We consider ourselves, economic and cultural guardians,

not rulers.

Consumption is the key with the clueless.

Its inertia makes us more...God like...or

so we like to think,

here at Global Inc…

… We corrupt reality

Make people believe their own morality,

So they succumb to the new religion

It’s our raison-d’état, simple as that!

We fill the world with confusion,

enhance the global illusion so that everybody’s in collusion.

Liberty and freedom is our most popular myth,

People buy that one at a cost

most of them are lost

slaves to their baser desires,

it’s easy for them to cross their wires.

Talking of which – this ones a real bitch.

All communication is processed through the ‘Echelon Zone’

our satellite network, keeping tabs

on the computer and the mobile phone…

Some of our more impersonal products

I’ll think you’ll agree...
but people still love them you see.

Ah! – Here we have this week’s special offer

the melting pot of our coffer, an ethical economy

based on the notion of  Third World sodomy.

Filled with economic processing zones,

shantytowns inhabited by drones.

A lot of fear, pain, anguish, and loathing

has gone into all that brand name clothing…

Talking of which – I must shed this skin.

Well I hope you like what you’ve Sssseeen

I know you’d like to buy – I can Ssssee your keen –

But take your time – have a think.

Would ‘Sssir’ like a drink?

Oh! How rude of me,
could I tempt Madam with an apple?
or would that be too much of a ‘Ssssin?’
Pleassse – take one – Courtesssy of Global Inc.’

Snake oil sold by snakes, what a concept! You didn't tell me you used to be in advertising, Paul. How sexy. ;-) ~~Nordette

Paul, this may be tongue in cheek, but its message hits me afresh between the eyes and it is chilling in its portrayal of reality: and to think that I buy into this moment by moment with my own "plastic"! Truly scary and immoral. Am keeping to remind myself of the horrors of how my ego is fed by the sweat of the label-producers - and the human blood on my plastic in this "enlightened" age - not the blood on my furs... This is true political satire with a deadly poisoned dart. TY Kate xx

I'll second the superlative "fantastic"! A brilliant and sarcastic take on the state of allmighty commerce's third world production and consumerism taken to it's sad, plastic ultimate conclusion...

Master Williams and I use that in a complimentary way this poem is fantastic and the last paragraphssssss blew me away, unfortunately there is also so much truth involved in this write as well as the humour. A good remindera and a great poem.
