This went off in a different direction than when I began. I like it, and hope you do, too. :-)
i have absolutely nothing to lose
and everything to gain -
i am going to go for it
i mean, what's the worst thing that could happen?
my pen could run out of ink
maybe no one will read my words -
maybe i'll splinter on the valley floor -
but that's a chance i must take
and so i close my eyes
and step over the edge of nothingness -
claws of gravity pulling on my legs -
as i'm falling quietly to my death -
my heart is satisfied because i tried -
my soul is at peace - i can live with that -
i land triumphantly onto the page
with the adrenaline rush
of poems in my veins -
i raise both of my arms and celebrate
the conquering of my fears
and thank God i survived -
and it is then - and only then - i sit
and contemplate what happened -
the miracle of words -

|Yes, I like it. You know, Karla, you can write poetry. Good poetry. But you seem to be stuck with this poetry-about-poetry-and-my-muse thing. What I mean is . . . branch out. You are good. Like you just said, go for it!|
