Sitting in Churchill's Lap

Sitting in Churchill’s Lap

late afternoon the sun followed the tree
line down Brush Creek, and Churchill’s shadow crossed
the street, his statue head tired and leaning,
the famous jowls pugnacious while
the child climbed onto his marble lap,
begging him for a story: such was
the languor of the day
and the hush before the storm.

A quiet beauty. Churchill would have loved it. I can see him smiling out of the corner of his mouth, teeth clenched on the cigar. You do have a gift of putting us right there in the moment...

... Couldn't resist this one, Larry!! Guess this is how poor old Tony Blair feels today as he is back in power with a very much reduced majority of only 60 seats - and Leo wanting his bedtime story this evening!! :)) Life in politics is tough... I wouldn't wish it on anyone, so God Bless those philanthropic egocentrics who are mad enough to try on our behalf! Very neat and a powerful thought and image. TY Kate xx

Love it. He is one of my favorite politicians from history.
