my favorite smell memories

the way the water filled wind
hits my face in the summer
the way you know it will rain
simply by the smell
reminds me of a night in a parking lot
up to my calfs in water
fighting in the rain

and it reminds me of bad wipers on a car
looking for house numbers
muddy tile floors
and the nice people
who tip well to soaked delivery girls

a summer spent inside
with a crazy cat woman
with my best friend
crotchet hooks
and yarn
the eucalyptus smell
that clung to everything
brought home from that craft store
that summer

hot electronics
the burning smell of a glue gun
left on too long
of an iron face down
(but actually unplugged durring
a certian thunder storm)
my heated blanket
warming all day
while i am at work

the way he tasted
and smelled
when he kissed me goodbye
heading off on a long journey home
the pipe smoke lingering
the last time i tasted that
a full weekend of relishing that smell
ended with lonlieness in a car

just cut lumber
my dad always reeked of it
indoor cat fur
it's like home
and every so often
something comes up
something smells and i remember
and i'm not always happy
but i know i was at the time
