Indigo Skies
The clouds blew away today at sunset,
Revealing the Hunter’s moon rising,
I felt as though I could touch her lovely face,
Trace every peak and valley I saw,
With my fingertip held just so…
I have always loved Indigo skies,
That deep blue with a copper hue,
Reminds me so much,
Of the color of your eyes…
I loved your Raven colored hair,
So black it was almost blue-
I can’t help thinking just how beautiful,
You were then…
We are Indian,
And the sun has colored our skin,
With bronze and reddish tones,
Your body so hard and smooth,
Like it was carved out of our red flint stones,
I love the colors of the world,
The brown and red clay earth,
The skies of Indigo blue,
Make me think of you…
We were nature’s savage children,
Brought up in the wild deep green forest,
Bathing in cool sweet waterfalls,
Flowing over the high cliffs,
Landing in beautiful blue-green ponds,
How much we loved swimming in them!
We lay together on the warm brown banks,
And dreamed of tomorrow then,
Do you remember?
How long ago it all seems,
When we lay together and dreamed,
Of where the future would take us,
How we would forget where we had been…
They buried you and your dreams,
In the Barren high desert,
Burned brown by the sun-
I always hated knowing that-
You should have been buried here.
It troubled me all these years,
Until I went to your grave,
And as the tears fell from my eyes,
The clouds blew away,
Revealing that lovely Indigo sky,
And I knew in my heart,
It was your way of telling me,
You had found your way home.
I smile now when the night falls softly,
And the dusk fades to that lovely shade of blue,
I think of you and how your spirit still flies,
In those lovely Indigo skies…
