Regis,
I wrote a poem many years ago entitled 'Strawberry Fields Forever.' I had the Beatles in mind when I penned it for Penthouse Letters.
My version is about an exotic dancer who wears strawberry pasties. AHHHHHHH...yes the visions and scents of yesteryear and how we have all grown well on the literary vine. You are a writer who is ripe and reveling in literary plumpness, well-rounded in form. Thanks for sharing this piece with us.

Regis,
Such a lovely, nostalgic write. My "favorite place" is now filled with condos fighting for their piece of lakefront property. It makes me a bit sad every time I see it ... they will never know of the youthful passions enjoyed there. I especially liked the way you wrapped up this piece -- what would we have done without the Beatles! |

I remember my first boyfriend. I was at Sparta, and we had a romance of sorts. We went out behind the cottage where the staff couldn't see us, and we kissed, and we cuddled and looked at the stars and the moon. Even in the Child Center, there was time for teenage romance. Of course, neither one of us wanted to do the sex thing, because then we would be gay, and neither one of us wanted that. It was nice to be treated by one boy in a state institution as the girl I have always been. I am so reminded of him, that it brings wonderful memories back to me, during this emotional weekend. I had one boyfriend then, but didn't have one at Winnebago, because there was really nowhere to sit and cuddle and kiss. But at Sparta, we were allowed to go outside, as long as we were back in by bedtime. the rest of my stay at Sparta and Winnebago, during my entire adolescence was to be lonely, abandoned, mistreated by the staff for no reason. I rebelled because I wasn't allowed to be me; I wasn't allowed to dress in the proper clothes; I wasn't allowed to have my name changed; I wasn't allowed to be this girl I have always been. I cried every day for 5˝ years, because of all of this. This poem brings back sweet memories of my boyfriend and I, and the memories of all of the others things I was forced to endure. I felt betrayed, robbed of my innocence, robbed of my identity, robbed of being me. Uhm, well anyway, thnx for sharing bro. May the Lord Jesus bless you and yours, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, stubborn to a fault, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little terrified sister, Barbie
