"ya' can't take it with you"

been dealin' alot lately
with death
and this and that

a friend just told me
where it's at

in the beginnin'
of the end
"i want this"
"i want that"
"this is mine"
"no mine"
"i'll just get what i find"
thought i'd lose my mind

then they
all went away
no more to say
no more to git
shit
what about
the rest of it
wanted ta' shout

whata' i'm gonna' do
with these old pairs of a shoe?
this dress
this shirt
god bless
how it hurt

"can't live without it"
"can't take it with ya'"
damn
man
what do i do?

so many things
so many memories
how do i let go
of what's so
old?

cuff links
remember those?

tie pins
hell, ties so wide

old shirts
white

memories late at night

pearls
and curls
or at least curlin' irons

all this shit
man, i remember it

pictures of windmills
and farms
4 foot by 3 foot
damn
they have their charms
they stand stills

i was gonna' rent
a storage space
ta' save
these old things
and what life brings
to a fool like me

needed to haul it
then my friend
reminded me...
"ain't no u-haul
in the cemetary"

damn...
goodbye

i sit'n i cry
i moan
all alone
to the night

best thing i got
is here
in my heart
that special part
where you'll always be

thanks mom & dad
though i'm sad
the life you had
wasn't bad
i'm glad
for the memories
our life's histories

just a momentary
laps
into the past
ain't no u-hauls
in the cemetary
that's alls

Steve,

This tugs at my heart. You made me stop, go to the dresser and open the small box containing my grandfather's cuff links. No way do they match to the memories. Thanks for a beautiful expression of life in its simplicity.

Very thoughtful. The only luggage you take is within your heart.
