Why a holiday dedicated to pain and loss, a day off of work, BBQ's but no memory of the fallen, except by the few...

Memorials…

Badges of honor,

Medals of valor,

Trophies of value,

Perhaps the head of an enemy,

Stuffed and mounted,

Never before did we know what truly counted…

A flag draped coffin,

Tears of those left behind,

War is fighting for the right,

Peace it seems is much maligned…

Shrapnel left in the body,

Metal plates instead of brain tissue,

Amputated limbs torn off quite shoddily,

Hearing and eyesight gone by a single blast,

With war man may have been miscast,

None of these things from heaven standard issue…

Every line of this is crushing truth. The verbal "graphics" absorb into the head and heart... a moment of silence was observed after reading... no choice... I was fully collapsed, Eddie M.
