This is probably the strangest poem I've ever written , but I wanted to
write these lines as images away from
one's home...tired and alone...I think it is really strange..too.

Walking in the dark at night

In a city of old,

stark and So cold;

Where’s all the café folks,

I thought they Shared their Parisian jokes,

or is their Absence the punch line

joke of the latest style hoax;

Do they hide, there isn’t

One in sight anywhere

Here tonight;

I am lonely but un-alone for

The unknown holds to me ever tight,

I am rendered with no more fight and so ends the night.

I’ve fear at times for this strange place,

There are thousands and yet I

Recognize not one face;

My endeavor is on time and very cleverly

Chimes …nothing lasts forever…then absence echoes

This can only get better….I reply it’d better!

At last another dawn is being once

Again to the skies born in,

I rest in the light replete with freshened life,

To find another if I but could find one sister or brother,

But no spirit here for any others! Nothing’s left for lovers!

I packed my bags, full of all my art and many rags,

Books filled, all kinds of thrills;

All I need to live and breath;

Thank God … I leave!

The End

I am glad that you left an unhappy place for in liofe we all must leave those unhappy places that make us feel so unsafe. This is well expressed.

My, such an emotional poem. It reminds me of my days in the military when just about to report to a new base.

Great poetry Rich, I'm beginning to feel the same about where I live

A very intriguing piece, Rich, especially since I traveled extensively on my job for many years, and I know this feeling well - sometimes I could hardly wait - to get home.

This piece of art reminds me of a place on campus here in South Africa wher my daughter took us once for coffee!!

You can feel the loneliness in this painting!!

New places, new people, always a scary combination. Your poem expresses that anxiety very well. Nicely done.

This is so true and spooky. sounds like a nightmare yet in reality people really do become faces we don't recognize anymore as friends and the people we've known many years & just vanish like they see us coming and hide like 'cowards'. and sometimes we really don't even have to pack our bags and leave. I really like this it's deep and methodical frightening and so real. Really puts me in '91-'94

Thanks Rich xo
