The Ones That Got Away

I can tell you long sorrowful stories
About the loves I’ve known
And lost
I can write spicy pages on the hot sex
I remember from that night in Ensenada
Pen sexy odes to the man
That I knew that weekend in Cancun
I can go on forever about the things I’ve done
And the few things I refused to do
But the one thing I can never write
Is the story of the love that lasted
The twenty fifth anniversary with the man I love
The children we raised
And the nights we spent together
I can’t tell you about togetherness
Or dreams that come true
I can’t complain about boredom
That comes from long years of marriage
Or the knowledge you gain
From living those years
Yeah, I’ve got some stories to tell
Its true
But they are not the ones I wish I had
lived to tell so well

it's often the things we regret that remain vivid in the mind, while the quiet joys fade to a blur after a while. that doesn't make them less meaningful, as you realize. still, i'd wouldn't mind reading about ensenada....

Sue,

Life is life. There are scores of others that wish they'd never married and had loved more freely (often). The experiences you've logged have all summed up and created the you that we've all come to know and admire.

Peace in all things,
