the rantings of a mad man...

If I Could…

©2005 Tyrone Vincent Banks

If I could change a few things about this world

Just a few minor adjustments

Followed by a quick recalibration of my own confused psyche

Maybe we’ll make in out of this room and move on to the next level of this Game that we call life

If I could change a few things about this world

First and foremost I’d remove the weapons from the hand

Of the boy who becomes a shooter thinking that he’s the man

An unfortunate place waits

On a cold slab or behind prison gates

Where one can think about their ways

And contemplate their next move for years, a lifetime or days

If I could change a few things about people

And how it’s so easy to turn away

From the television and the images of pain it displays

How cold and how numb

Must one’s soul become?

If only I could do everything that can be done

I’m willing to give

A part of my soul so that you may live

As I deteriorate and decay

So that you live for one more day

If I could help in any way

To make that life better today

For the one who gave it all for us

Before he went away

If I could follow that part

Of my sick poisoned heart

And correct my approach

And the way that I live

And then selflessly give

Back to those who need something

But still I give nothing

Other than a few words about fate

Dropped in the collection plate

To be given to good

If I could then I would

I don’t offer much

But a twist and a touch

To the words that flow through me

And splash the page in a rush

If I could stop the complainers, whiners and bitchers

Criers and babblers who want to be richer

Who have so much but want more

They think not of the poor

As they quickly close the door

If I could take every damn bullet

From the hands of the gunners

And then take down the damn drug runners

Who run shit into the hood

And f.#ck us up good

But damn it’s too late

To quell that harsh fate

And hell… why not take

The evil and hate

And force enemies to sit and negotiate

If shit don’t go well, and the talking does cease

That’s no reason to abandon the process of peace

Launch a missile over your neighbor

“Oh well, it worked!”

But when the bomb does explode

Do they care if you’re hurt?

If I could take some parents

Who murder their own child

And sit up in court with that goofy ass smile

And spend several years as they die for a while

Before returning to the streets…

with that same goofy smile...

You know…if I could take his weapon and turn it into a flower

He’ll figure out a way to use it as a weapon

Within just one hour

Money and time spent, perfecting the skill

That delivers an impact resulting in a kill

Society in a wheel barrel

Perched on a hill

Nothing is happening as we still stand still

The hours that past

May be our last

We can fix this turmoil, if we act fast.

God has set aside a day to do just that, fix all this turmoil and heal all hurt! The job is too big for us, but just for Him!
