Running With Wolves

I have walked this road for years,
Know every stone and twig by name,
As they know mine…
You seem to think I am lonely,
But though I am alone,
I am not grieving for your presence,
I know the truth about man,
And I know you well.

This then is the place of dreams,
Amid yellowed pages and faded photographs,
The place I call home.

If I suffer to let you come,
You must be quiet;
My heart does not seek words to find peace,
Rather I would listen to the birds sing,
And the winds whisper their secrets to me.
You I do not hear…

Yet you come seeking what I do not know,
You can not live here with me,
I could not bear your presence long,
You would disturb my friends here,
With your wanton lusts and ugly heart…

I shall bear you yet a while,
So you may see what you will never achieve,
This bliss of life that comforts me,
This glorious sunset you cannot see,
This rising of the moon on such a cold night,
That you may see the white breaths of the wolves
As they run the worn paths of my life.

I shall run tonight with them,
We travel well together,
I am quiet and they bear my presence well.
Looking back now and again,
A smile in their eyes,
Knowing I can run as well as they,
Howl as loud at the wanton moon,
Who betrays us both with her beauty…

We are one under this bloodless sun,
One with all of life-
You cannot destroy me,
Cannot wound me,
I will never let you near enough to try,
I am stronger than you,
Though you think me weak-
Stronger than you are capable of being;

For I know the truth about life,
I know the truth about you.
I know who I am,
And what I am not…

So tonight when the moon is full,
I shall run with the wolves,
Until my heart burns white hot,
And I will leave you on the path,
You cannot travel on,
Wondering what it is,
You forgot…

to know the heart of those who are untouched by the moon's song, by the silence of the night forest, by the wordless communication of biological family ... experience knows no bounds, evidenced by prescient writes such as this ...

Heavy bit of philosophizing here, Reindeer. A strong poem about your sense of what is in the cosmos. I like that, someone who knows what the hell they know and accepts it as them. Strange you write about wolves today, I did too, in a manner of speaking. Gotta love it.
