"What you call Iraq today / We used to call Vietnam"

Transcendental Sonnet #1405:
Independence Day

What you call Iraq today
We used to call Vietnam
Nightmares never go away
If sometimes you wake up from
Them you go to sleep once more
And they have been waiting for
You and no one else will do

It will never end young friend
Sleep and never question why
Forward march and Semper Fi
Big brother is watching you
And his nightmares never end
Hear the grateful nation say
Happy Independence Day

Steven,

Powerful write--although I hate war, there are those willing to pay the ultimate price so that we may be free. God bless 'em!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

Such is the price for living with the right to govern ourselves. Yes, a terrible price, and one that has been, and will be, paid for more generations and centuries - until mankind drops religion and race, and all the extraneous issues having nothing to do with living as brothers and sisters. Thank you for writing this one so well - Bill

This one says so much about the world today. History repeats itself in another manner.

This my friend is excellant and says so much about the nature of man and the outlook of the world. You nailed this one to the wall and it is a worthy poem for publication anywhere. Bravo.
