Al Qaida is not and NEVER was in Iraq. It STILL isn’t. Likewise, Osama Bin Laden. On 9/11 this country was entirely united behind this president, ready to do anything to get these monsters, kill them, destroy them. The invasion of Iraq was always the goal, however. Our brave, beleagered, magnificent troops now have their pay cut, their health care cut and are begging for equipment this president won’t pay for… yet, you still support that? I am part of two groups, one of which is raising money to get them what they need… the other is to raise money for the families, many of which are no longer getting income just to live. This is what liberals do! We fly the flag AND support our troops. WAKE UP… WE WANTED WAR WITH AL QAIDA, NOT IRAQ. The insurgents are Sunni’s and Saddam’s Baith party… NOT AL QAIDA TERRORISTS.   Ask yourselves this:  If Bob beats you up will you go and beat up Tom, saying he has a knife and wants to kill you, though Tom has NO knife, and YOU KNOW THAT?  If you do, and Tom's friends see the injustice in that, and soon the playground is swarming with Tom's friends and people who didn't even know Tom, but see the unfairness, whose fault is it if you end up with a bloody nose?  Meanwhile, Bob is free to beat up little kids and anyone else he wishes.  You've let him off the hook.

Anyone who tells you that progressives/liberals want to "psychoanalyze" these monsters is LYING! I find judging other’s for their views without understanding their motivations the height of ignorance, not to mention unkindness. Perhaps we cannot engage these terrorists with talk… but you’ve stopped engaging your fellow Americans, unless they believe exactly as you do. If you must attack, attack the view, NOT the person! And stop calling us ALL the same thing. We ALL have our extremists... I prefer to learn from others… try to understand… when that stops, you are doomed. Damn it! This has gone far enough! Now, you who speak with sweetness when I’m sweet,  yet attack me as another monster when I exercise my right to disagree or to speak up… Stop It!

Let me also remind you… all of you… beware of those who support Wal-Mart for Christian values… Wal-Mart has all of its manufacturing done CHEAPLY in China… a Communist country!!  Yet, some of you spit that word Communist at we liberals... when you do that, you prove your ignorance... I like some of you... I cringe when you do this... AND, they encourage, even enforce abortions on their women. BUT… there’s tons of money to be made so figure it out… what’s their priority?  Personally, as a liberal, NOT a Communist/Socialist,  I refuse to shop there.   Plus, Wal-Mart is of the 'party' that disdains, publicly, welfare programs, those who call people lazy and worthless. .. YET… Wal-Mart, instead of providing their workers with health care, give them pamphlets to sign up for … you guessed it… welfare. Believe it… In Wisconsin it’s called Badger Care… and the Wal-Mart workers make up 2/3 of what my taxes pay for.   It's hard, isn't it?  If you shop at and support Wal-Mart, I get to call you Communist sympathizers.  How does that sound?  But... I have a better head than that... I don't assume anything.  It's a personal choice where we shop... at least it once was.

You want to talk to me rationally, as a friend, as a fellow American, as a fellow poet?  I’m as open as an old book. You want to make blanket statements? Assumptions? Call me names for my beliefs?  Save it for those who, like you, need backup, support, SAMENESS.  I prefer to think for myself.  I have no time for those who willingly  hate... actively hate... who choose to hate, rather than understand or learn.  Blanket statements and assumptions and spouting rhetoric and spin don't much appeal to me.  I don't throw frisbie, I don't hug trees and I don't think other people's choices in life are my business, unless you engage me and ask me what I think.  Am I a liberal?  You better believe IT!  You all know me pretty well, now, through my poetry... well?  Am I a monster?  I think not!  But I AM an American, proud to be, same as you.  Deal with it!

EW:  a deep thinker, good heart, a seeker of kindness

JB:  spunky, 'out there', sometimes hilarious and an incurable word-tease...

LM:  a bright spot, a clear day, a Haiku queen, indeed

Well-known supporters of the president, these.  But that's not why I call them friend, or don't, because of it.  They speak their minds... I do too.  This is about poetry, not hatred.  When you make statements against my party, my fellow liberals, as though we are the same, you hurt me, too... not because it's mean... because it diminishes the friendship.  I consider blanket statements to be a sign of unkindness... but worse, of ignorance.  Engage!  Don't let others' spin become your mantra.  Have your own mantra and speak it openly and proudly, without hate.  Attack the issue, not the person!

I'm done, now.

United we STOOD, Divided we ARE

On that fateful, horrible day

In September 2001

We were promised these villains

Would be hunted and found

If we’d done that… we’d have won.

London, today, is in rubble

Left to count her wounded and dead.

Again, we’re being promised

These monsters will pay

But you never meant what you said.

My cry was for vengeance, for blood.

I’m with you, my President, your words are mine.

Find those who did this

Bring them to justice or death

But the promise was just a line.

Every American stood at the ready

Sacrifice? No problem, these people must pay!

We prepared for the worst

And we did it together!

Then you went entirely a different way.

Don’t insult me for pointing my finger at you.

You fed us all lies, not a word from you, true .

The terrorists don’t fear us, their numbers just grew.

Al Qaida’s in London… now what will you do?

Osama attacked us, it wasn’t Iraq.

You divided our country with lies.

You’ve brainwashed the "faithful",

They’re consumed with these falsehoods.

And YOU are deaf to our cries.

How DARE you blame me

How DARE you suggest

I don’t love my country

This isn’t a TEST!

Four years have passed,

Many people are dead

EXCEPT those who hurt us.

They are free to continue their killing spree

I wanted them dead… but who cares about me?

Wow! Wow! Wow! Katy, you have spoken for the voiceless, the powerless and the misled. I am proud of you for speaking what most of us would be afraid to even say in our dream. That is how paralyzed our society has become.

Thank you for speaking for me and many others through United we Stood, Divided we Are? Your cry was loud and clear. I hope our leaders are paying attention. I hope they have a change of heart. I hope they will stop misleading us into chaos. I hope they will stop sacrificing both the lives of innocent Iraqis as well as the lives of our men and women in the Armed Forces.

Well conveyed!

For a moment there, I thought there was no poem. There wasn't, but what there was was worthy of Samuel Adams. I call you, Hero, my sweet, funny Valkyrie, standing up for the right and reason in a sea of sloth.

Go get 'em, girl! Make their day. They know who they are. I fear them more than al Queada, for I really know what al Quaeda stands for.

Well Katy,

I, for one, believe that the people of the United States have been led down a deceitful path. So many in other parts of the world see it so clearly yet "Americans", for the most part, seem to be blindly following the political propogandra which is waged upon them by their own government.

Thank You for having the ccourage to speak The Truth.

I applaud you for this, Katy; but President Bush did not cause this war. He only wants those who do this evil brought to justice, and we must do our part to make sure that these bastards are found, caught, and punished with the severest form of the law. I pray that these madmen are caught and dealt with; they are the scum of the earth, and they need to be vanquished. I can understand your feelings, Katy, but our country was attacked, and President Bush was only doing what any one would do when threatened: fight back. He may not be doing it right, but he IS trying. He may not be the BEST president we have had, but he IS our leader, and we must learn to unite and band together and fight this terrible evil. It doesn't matter if we are conservative OR liberal: we MUST do our part and try to win this war TOGETHER!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

Boy Katy, you surely did open a barrel of Republican monkeys and gave them what they do and did deserve for many years...GOOD FOR YOU, FOR SAYING WHAT I FELT, AND WHAT OTHERS HAVE FELT FOR YEARS! I will fight and if necessary kill the first person that attacks your beliefs as they are YOURS! We still live in a semi-FREE, democratic country and while I may not always agree with you, I will again fight to the death to defend your right to say it...GIVE EM' HELL, KATY, excellent rant, to the point and well spoken...your dad would be proud of you, dear friend, Ed & Rufuz (w00f)

Katy, you know where I stand. I 'm never afraid to speak my mind, I dislike offending people, because I'd rather not. Especially those I admire and like, such as you. Our differences are not always that far apart, except for one major thing.

When you compare our president to the amoral sub-human terrorists that kill indiscriminately, chopping heads off, using children as suicide bombers, not even knowing what the word sorry means, when you compare him to them and blame him for what has happened, that is when you go off the wall in my opinion.

I don't care if it's Bush, it could be any president, I don't ever remember any president in this country republican democrat or other, who could ever be compared to the terrible, amoral ,evil people that the radical muslim terrorists are.

Revile bush hate him call him names, but to say he is responsible for what happened in London is totally insane! It is nothing more than political rhetoric that has no basis in fact. That is where I differ with you.

Still you have the right to think as you please, and so do I , and thank God our American presidents have allowed our rights to continue, whether we like them or not!

Blessings to you Katy

Wow Katie I am like others, as a canadian I don't rile easily but this old world cannot take much more and the fact is I think the politics of the situation is almost as bad as the actual attacks, smoke screens and magic shows while your soldiers continue to die.

Maybe it's time for a new world order before the world is desttoyed into an uncivilized rabble.

I will say that I ditto what Jill said. I will also say that if we leave Iraq now, the Republic will collapse. Soldiers know their jobs when they sign up and take their oath. Those I have known who have served in Iraq have all said that they were honored to do so and that we have done a lot of good there. All that aside, I feel that we live in a land of liberty and everyone is entitled to their own opinion....that is what soldiers fight and die for...freedom for "all".

Take care,

I just can't bear all this stuff, but BOY!!! Katy you take my breath away with your passion and I bet you're shaking now... I am just writing this: YOU ARE SPOT ON AND A BRAVER, MORE HONEST AND UPFRONT WRITE HERE I HAVE YET TO SEE. Know you are loved, supported and respected always by this shaken and feeble Brit who knows hardly anything, feels a lot and understands but little. But I know that you ARE RIGHT in what you say about how we judge and make sweeping assumptions which does more damage than good. It is this that is so disappointing and soul-destroying. Although the death toll continues to rise, London is largely quiet and back to work today. Our heels will dig in and we will refuse to live in fear - how can we be looking for a bomb up every jumper that intelligence hasn't personally looked under?! That's what's happening now. Every tin pot little group will be at it to air some grievance or another, irrespective of being part of the Big Brother AQ network or not. The world is unstable and rocked with unrest and chaos. Dividing into camps and name-calling with a massive great brush to tar everyone and everything with will do nothing to help save people's lives or build more stability into our multi-ethnic cultures. And I hate to be the one to say this, but London's 7/7 is nothing like your 9/11 - how can it be? What could ever be on that scale of audacious outrage. DON'T MISINTERPRET ME!! I am in no way undermining the loss of each unique and precious life and showing disrespect and heartlessness. But let's not have an escalation of perception that fuels fear and panic even higher. This is now the world we are all living in and we need to focus on how best to flush out the darkness, not to increase it with political wrangling. I'm too tired and drained to be doing this, so my profuse apologies if I am making little sense and a major mess. I love you, Katy. Kate xx

The fact remains that regardless of how 'well' we perform in the "War on Terror", as long as people reside on earth, there will be conflicts among them. As long as there is conflict, there will be radicals and though, like Karla, I am a conservative and support our efforts in the War on Terror, I also realize that it is a war with limited hope for conclusion.
I do feel that everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion and I judge no one, whether they agree with my feelings or not. It is my hope, always, that I am respected for my beliefs, too.
While I agree that Iraq should not have been the main focus, I do believe that Saddam Hussein was funneling money to terror groups, i.e. the $25,000 reward to suicide bombers families and for the families of those who killed American troops. I am sure, whether for or against the war effort, you will agree, that at the least, the Iraqi people are a freer group, now that Saddam is gone. They never had the capabilities to complete the effort, alone and our troops know the threats to their lives when they enlist. Brave beings, indeed, and it does not belittle the sacrifices that so many have made, but no one forced their hands to enlist; they did so for the sake of serving the country.
A powerful write and a sad state that you are being judged for your beliefs, but such are the ways of some people, I guess. That's the nice and often, awkward thing about our freedom, we all have opinions to which we're entitled, but often, people don't know where to draw the line between judging and respect. I'll respect your opinions, as long as I am free to have my own and you are willing to accept them, as well, whether agreeing with them or not.
Reviewed by Karla Dorman, The StormSpinner

I don't know what to believe anymore. The fact remains: those that perpetrated the attacks on 9-11 (and Nairobi and Madrid and London) continue to roam at large.

I don't believe the Iraqis are responsible; I think Jr. Bush wanted to finish the (botched) job Daddy Bush started. Yes, Saddam needed ousting; but we should have been out of there a long time ago. Innocent Iraqis as well as our troops are paving the sand with their blood. When will the madness end?

A powerful, needed write; I agree with much you have to say. Although I'm conservative, there's only so much bull I can put up with. :(

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(
